Nifty Gateway drops frequently have limited supply, and more often than not, they sell out quite quickly.
The following is a list of best practices to follow when purchasing from a drop to maximize your chances of getting what you want.
Collect, do not speculate
Art is subjective and very personal. Therefore, you should only attempt to purchase a piece if it is a work you like, created by an artist you want.
If you purchase a piece solely with the intent of reselling it on the secondary market, you will likely end up having a bad experience on Nifty Gateway.
Create an account in advance
Do not wait until the drop is about to start to sign up for an account on Nifty Gateway. Instead, sign up well in advance.
We recommend showing up to the site 5-10 minutes early, ensuring you are logged in and having the collection page you are looking to buy open on your computer.
Add a payment method in advance
Do not wait until 6:30 pm EST pm to add a payment method to your account.
If you are paying with a credit card, you can save a credit card in advance.
To reduce the chances of your credit card getting declined during a drop, ensure that you properly entered your address, zip code, CVC code, and full name when saving a credit card to your profile. If this information is missing or incorrect, it is more likely that your bank will decline the transaction when you are trying to purchase.
If you plan on paying with ETH, please ensure that your Metamask is connected and verified here.
Set your computer clock to seconds
Drops go live at precisely at their listed time. By setting your computer clock to seconds, you can ensure that you are refreshing the collection page right at the start time.
A quick google search will help you figure out how to set your computer clock to work in seconds depending on what type of computer you have.
Be warned – the site may be slower during drops
The drops feature a large number of users all visiting niftygateway.com at the same time & making many simultaneous requests to our backend server. This inevitably causes a slowdown as our server struggles to keep up.
You should keep this in mind if something is taking a long time to load.
If you get unlucky, try the secondary market
Unfortunately, the reality of releasing a limited quantity of NFTs means that some people will get unlucky during a drop.
If you do not get what you are looking for from a drop, you can always shop around on the secondary market. Place a global bid on a piece by looking at the secondary market item detail page for an NFT.
You can also set a price alert for a specific NFT. Once you have set a price alert, you will get an email notifying you when a specific item has been listed for below the price you specified in your price alert.
Good luck!
If you do not get the piece you were looking for from the drop, we are truly sorry. We are constantly working to make the system as fair and equitable as possible, so please bear with us.
Every member of the Nifty Gateway team has experienced the feeling of not getting what they were looking for from the drop, so we understand how disappointing it is. Keep in mind that there will be more drops in the future.
